Dead Men Walking?

There was once a man who believed he was dead. He constantly told his wife that he didn't believe that he was alive so partly to help him and partly to preserve her own sanity, his wife and kids sought out professional help. However, all the doctors and psychiatrists in the world could not convince him otherwise.
Finally, one doctor settled on a plan to establish empirically the fact that only living people bleed. The man was trying to deny that as well but they showed him slides, videos, books, journals, cadavers, and even interviewed specialist in the field who constantly affirmed the fact that living people do indeed bleed. Living people bleed!
Finally, the man conceded, “Alright, I guess I am going to have to admit that only living people bleed” As soon as he said that one of the doctors there immediately took a pin and plunged it into one of the veins on the mans arm which instantly gushed forth blood. At which the man looked at if and exclaimed “Great Scott! I guess dead people bleed too!”

Do you realize that for all practical purposes, that man was really dead? Because from all vantage points, no amount of information could change his thinking. What do you think? What implications does this have on the way we talk to unbelievers? To Christians struggling with false beliefs? Have you ever been caught in this kind of mind game?

You guys are right about the never giving up. We serve the God of the 2nd and 3rd chance ( and 4th and 5th..you get the idea). Writing people off is not an option. The danger comes though when I think I can have convictions without consequences. Every person on earth will one day give account of themselves. I will have to answer for the believes I hold...did they edify and build others up or did they bring death. If that guy in the story were my father...I would love him but depending on how deep his dillusion went, I doubt that I would have a relationship with him. Mom would have to work, the kids would have to find their own way, and good luck collecting life insurance!

Your also right that logic isn't always the answer. This can be seen simply in the fact that there are brilliant men who are agnostic and brilliant men who believe in a divine creator..an Uncaused cause. Both sides have "overwhelming evidence" that the other side is wrong. This is why the Holy Spirit is so important in my life and my witness. Satan has more knowledge of the Bible and God than I will ever have in this lifetime but I don't covet Lucifers severance package. When I realize that it is not WHAT I know but WHO I serve...I am able to live life with the comfort of knowing that if God is right all the time than I don't have to be...and as Dean said, God gets the glory.
